Every time this happens the general public thinks that the aircraft are in great peril and in danger of death. I can assure you that that is never the case!
I'm sure that the FAA is not telling the complete truth here. Why do I say that? Because I'm a living testimony of a government conspiracy. I am a former air traffic controller that has been discriminated against by the FAA and been accused of having a criminal background. And now it's costing me my entire life savings to attempt to fight this criminal system.
We used to be told by supervisors on the night shifts to sleep. In fact there are many facilities with sleeping rooms where controllers were encouraged to take naps and so forth. Some of these facilities are small and rather poorly constructed absolute dumps. What I suppose happened here at Knoxville is that someone didn't like the guy and just plain got him in trouble for sleeping. (And they all sleep) It wasn't anything unusual and I can only hope that someone can finally rise up and expose the corrupt management of the FAA. But as usual they are well protected criminals just like the banksters.
The only fix for this problem is to have at least two people in the operating quarters at all times. But instead they have been "cutting staffing" to save money. More on that sometime as I am always busy working on my case....
Here's the media version of this story. This is never an accurate depiction of what actually happened:
